Casting Decisions

In October of 2021, Netflix announced that Kristofer Hivju, known for his role in the Game of Thrones series, was cast to play Nivellen. Joining him in the upcoming season is Robbie Amell as Gallatin, Meng'er Zhang as Milva, and Hugh Skinner as Prince Rayla.

The casting director Sophie Holland and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich have expanded the witcher world of the Continent through the characters they choose to embody the scripts written for the Netflix series.

Filming Delays

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming for the third season was put on hold. The initial delays in production occurred during the filming of Season 2 in early 2020 and forced the production crew and cast to take a four-month hiatus.

Despite the setbacks, filming for the third season was able to resume in March of 2022 with COVID-19 safety protocols in place, according to Redanian Intelligence, a site that provides news about the Witcher franchise.

Release Date

During the Tudum presentation held by Netflix in 2022, the official release date of the third season was finally announced, being Summer 2023. While no specific date has been given, fans can expect the show to return sometime between June and August.

The third season of the Witcher is eagerly awaited by fans and with the release date on the horizon, anticipation continues to grow for what the new season will bring.

What to Expect

The third season of The Witcher will be based on the book, Time of Contempt. This installment in the Witcher saga will follow Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer as they navigate the complexities of the Continent.
