Tornadoes Touch Down in Chicago Area
At Least 11 Tornadoes Reported, Damage Confirmed
Survey Teams Assessing Storm Damage in Illinois and Indiana
At least 11 tornadoes touched down in parts of the Chicago area and northeast Illinois on Wednesday evening, causing damage to homes and uprooting trees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) and city officials.
The storms, which also prompted brief tornado warnings in Cook County, ended by 10 pm, but thunderstorms continued to move eastward. By Thursday morning, NWS teams were surveying the extent of the damage across the affected areas.
In Geneva, Illinois, the NWS confirmed that at least three tornadoes touched down, causing damage to homes and businesses. Officials in other areas are still assessing the situation and reporting additional tornadoes that may have occurred.
